Microsoft Windows Sharepoint Services is one of Microsoft's fastest growing products ever?
So What is Sharepoint?
Can I see a demonstration of Sharepoint?
Researching for a definition of what Sharepoint is not so easy. Wikipedia's definition was technically correct
but probably not helpful for those less technically minded. Microsoft's definitions for Sharepoint seem to be also technically biased especially for those of you who understand words like "Enterprise" "Content Management" and "Interoperability".
Where does that leave the rest of us? You can understand why most business people often find technology confusing, frustrating and with those highly daunting learning curves! So why did we choose Sharepoint for our FOX Small Business Administrator and why should you consider Sharepoint for your business?
Well here's our non-technical definition of what Sharepoint is and which should give a clue:
"Sharepoint provides an easy way for non-technical business people to share their spreadsheets, word documents, pictures and other PC files with their colleagues, friends, supplier or customer contacts across an intranet, an extranet or the internet.
Sharepoint allows business people the freedom to create their own databases or custom lists of information. One of it's key attractions is being able to get those important business spreadsheets shared on-line. More advanced users can avoid learning how to program but still develop tools for collaboration such as Wikis, Discussion Forums, Blogs and even Workflows.
Access to all of this information is easily managed via a very effective user security feature. This feature basically allows you to set up specific permissions for groups or individuals as to what information they can see, add or edit. An example might be using Sharepoint security to offer exclusive access to a special pricing list for reseller partners."
For those of you who have not seen Sharepoint in action here is a short 6 minute video demonstration of FOX-SBA using Sharepoint's MS Office integration to share information between MS Outlook and a Sharepoint 2007 Web Site:
